Previous Director General of the Police Senad Jušić handed over the business to the new acting Director General of the Police Damjan Petrič on 16 January 2025.

Senad Jušić resigned from the position of the Director General of the Police on 15 January 2025. At its correspondence session of the same day held on the proposal of the Minister of the Interior the Government appointed a new acting Director General of the Police Damjan Petrič, previously at the head of the Criminal Police Directorate of the General Police Directorate.

Damjan Petrič, M.A., is a career police officer and criminal police officer. Over the span of his 36-year-long career, he has progressed from serving as a police officer and criminal police officer on the ground to holding various management positions within the Police, drawing on his extensive experience, knowledge, and expertise.

He started as police officer, advanced to the role of criminal police officer at a police station, was subsequently promoted to Assistant Head of the police station, became police inspector in the Director’s Service of the Ljubljana Police Directorate, and later appointed as a criminal police inspector in the Criminal Police Division of the Ljubljana Police Directorate, followed by his role as Head of Property Crime Group. He then held positions as senior criminal police inspector in the Criminal Police Division and Assistant Head of the Criminal Police Division, before becoming Head of Criminal Police Division of the Ljubljana Police Directorate. His career progression continued with promotion to Director of Ljubljana Police Directorate and later to Director of the Criminal Police Directorate at the General Police Directorate. He has received numerous police awards.

Previous Director General of the Police Senad Jušić congratulated his successor for the appointment and wished him successful leadership of the Police. Jušić will continue to work in the Police leadership as Police Superintendent.

Matjaž Jerkič takes over the leadership of the Criminal Police

The previous Director of the Criminal Police Directorate Damjan Petrič, who today assumed the post of the acting Director General of the Police, handed over the business to his previous assistant Matjaž Jerkič, who will temporarily act as the head of the Criminal Police Directorate at the General Police Directorate under delegated powers.

Deputy Director General of the Police Igor Ciperle attended the hand over of business between Damjan Petrič and Matjaž Jerkič.
