Tomislav Omejec, M.A., born in 1970, joined the police in 1989. After completing the Police Cadets School in Tacen, he worked at the Police Station Ljubljana Bežigrad, first as a police officer, then as the Head of the Interventions patrol and neighbourhood police chief, before becoming a criminal investigator at the local Criminal police Division; he actively participated in the war for independence.
He worked at the police station until 1996, when he was transferred to work as Educator at the Police Academy. While on the position, he completed his studies at the Faculty of Sports, and worked as P.E. professor at the Police Academy, before becoming the practical procedure Instructor. He took part in the training of police officers for work in multi-ethnic communities and for reducing stereotypes and discrimination.
In 2006, he joined the Police Directorate Ljubljana. In the meantime, he pursued the studies at the School for Advanced Social Studies in Nova Gorica and received the MA degree in Intercultural Management in 2011. He was the Head of the General Police Tasks Department at the Ljubljana Police Directorate until 2012, when he became head of the Public Order Section of the General Police Division at the Uniformed Police Directorate of the General Police Directorate. In 2014, he was promoted Head of the Division within the General Police Directorate.
As an expert in his field and the Head of the Division, he worked on the preparation of several Acts, participated in research projects and expert forums. While in office as Head of the Division, he was seconded to the European Asylum Agency (EUAA) as the National corporate security expert from July 2020 until April 2022.
Tomislav Omejec was appointed Head of the Police Directorate Ljubljana on 21 July 2023.
