Having completed the Tacen police cadet school in 1989, Damir Ivančić started his police career as an officer at the Ljubljana Šiška Police Station. Later he worked at the Ljubljana Traffic Police Station, Gornji Petrovci police station and Murska Sobota Police Station. In Murska Sobota he was assistant community policing officer, criminal police officer and assistant commander.
In 2000 he completed his studies at the Faculty of Criminal Justice and Security and was transferred to the Organised Crime Section of the Murska Sobota Police Directorate's Criminal Police Division. In 2008 he became the head of General Crime Section of the Murska Sobota Police Directorate and in 2010 the head of Criminal Police Division.
In 2011 he completed his Master?s studies at the Faculty of Criminal Justice and Security and a year later was awarded a gold police shield.
On 1 February 2013 he was appointed Director of the Murska Sobota Police Directorate.
