The Slovenian police have acquired a third multi-role transport helicopter Agusta Westland AW 169. It is the same type of helicopter that the police used last year to put out a fire in Kras and to rescue people and property in this year's catastrophic floods in August.
The delivery brings the fleet of AW 169 helicopters from two to three, and the total number of helicopters to seven. After the delivery, airworthiness procedures will be carried out and the helicopter is expected to be operational in January 2024.
This type of helicopter replaced the older AB 212 and AB 412 transport helicopters, which had already been retired due to difficult-to-supply parts and obsolescence.
The helicopters are used by the police for policing, humanitarian, rescue and other tasks, and with a modern and stronger fleet, the Air Support Unit can now provide even better quality support to police units in the field and other systems in the country.
