The 2023 European Ju-Jitsu Championships was held in Zagreb, Croatia, from 23 to 26 November 2023, with competitors from 27 countries taking part.
Tim Toplak, a police martial arts lecturer at the Police College, competed as a member of the Slovenian team. Gorazd Toplak, also a Slovenian Police employee, accompanied Tim at the championship as his coach.
Tim Toplak, a member of the Shinto Ju-Jitsu Club from Ljubljana, competed in Ju-Jitsu Fighting. As the main favourite, he was free in the first round, in the second round he competed against a representative from Austria, in the third round against a competitor from France, and in the fourth round against a representative from Denmark. He defeated all these opponents and secured his place in the final.
In the final round, he faced a competitor from Italy, this year's Junior World Champion. It was a very interesting fight, but in the end Tim's experience prevailed, as he won the final round with a score of 12 : 4, thus winning his third European Championship title.
